May it Be True

MSNBC’s Dan Pompei writes that the Steelers may be the best team in the AFC and the conference’s Super Bowl representative. I don’t disagree. This year’s defense is one of the best I’ve ever seen. They lead in every important category and have been putting up some fearful sack and turnover numbers. With no superteam in the AFC like last year’s Patriots, the Steelers could do it.

I’m worried about the offense though. Unlike Pompei, I’m not worried about the Titans, Jets, and Colts. The Jets seem to have peaked already and the Steelers would have beaten the Colts except for two picks by Ben Roethlisberger inside the Steelers’ 30 yard line. No, I’m afraid of the Titans and the Ravens. The Steelers offense has the nasty habit this year of starting slow, and Ben is back getting sacked and throwing picks with alarming regularity. I see the Titans and/or Ravens defense staking their team to a 10-0 or 14-0 lead in the playoffs and then sitting on the ball for three quarters while the passable but not great Steelers offense tries to play catch up.

By the way, guess who the Steelers play the next two weeks…
