The NFL is investigating charges that the Baltimore Ravens had bounties on two Steelers players in a recent game, which the Steelers won 23-20 in overtime. The Ravens defense allegedly had rewards out for cheap shots on wide receiver Hines Ward and running back Rashard Mendenhall. Mendenhall was injured for the season in the game, which lends some credence to the charges.
Of course the Ravens’ general thuggish characteristics also lend some credence to the bounty allegations. As the Steelers’ biggest rivals (as long as the Browns stink), the Ravens have been full of goons and cheap shot artists on defense for the better part of a decade. Taking contracts out on players, which the NFL strongly disapproves of, would not surprise me in the least.
