The Hopes and Fears

I’ve long been a fan of Christmas music, especially the traditional hymns Oh Come All Ye Faithful and O Holy Night. But recently, I’ve come to appreciate another Christmas tune, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem. Especially these lines:

Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light;
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

What a great visual of the light of Christ coming into the dark Advent winter of our world. The world’s dark night of the soul is ended, for unto us a child is born.
