Here’s a shout out to my undergraduate alma mater, Muhlenberg College, a “Lutheran” liberal arts school in eastern Pennsylvania. The men’s football team has just completed its first undefeated season (10-0) in the program’s 106-year history. The stingy Mules defense gave up but 75 points during the entire season (they could teach Nebraska a thing or two) and finished the season as the #13 team in Division III football. Playoffs start this week, with the Mules seeded third in their bracket against Salisbury (MD) at home in Allentown. If they win, they face the winner of the game between second-seeded Wesley (DE) and seventh-seeded Hampden-Sydney (VA). In either case, if the Mules win, I’m thinking a Thanksgiving weekend road trip is in order.
Back in my day, one- and two-win seasons weren’t uncommon. It was near pandemonium on campus my senior year when the team finished at .500. My how things have changed. Go Mules!
