With two months to go, former Attorney General Republican Jerry Kilgore has opened a 4 point lead on Democratic Lt Governor Tim Kaine. Polls show that Kilgore leads Kaine 45 percent to 41 percent. That lead grows to 7 points when only likely voters are polled. The Republican’s strength is in the Southwest and Southern Virginia, as expected, but he also polls evenly with Kaine in NoVA, which Kaine needs to win handily in order to carry the state. Kaine’s 41 percent is very weak support, considering incumbant governor Mark Warner is polling at 76 percent.
Independent candidate Russ Potts, a Republican state senator, is polling at only 5 percent. Probably because he likes tax hikes so much.
