SurveyUSA has released a fifty-state poll of governor approval ratings. Seated at the top is North Dakota’s John Hoeven with a hefty 71 percent approval rating. Locally, Maryland’s Republican Governor Bob Ehrlich is at 46 percent approval (43 percent disapproval) heading into next year’s re-election bid. Virginia Governer Mark Warner has a solid 55 percent approval rating, which strikes me as odd considering the statehouse is expected to go for the GOP in November.
Other notables include California’s Arnold Schwarzenegger at 40 percent, New York’s George Pataki at 36 percent, and the much hyped potential presidential candidate Mitt Romney of Massachusetts at 41 percent. Coming in dead last was Ohio Republican Bob Taft at 19 percent. How on earth can a sitting politician get 19 percent in the polls? You have to try to alienate people to go that far down.
